A celebration in Horní Podluží in the Děčín district turned into a rescue operation overnight into Sunday. A total of nine participants in the wedding party had to be transported to Děčín hospital by paramedics after apparently becoming intoxicated.
"The guests were suffering from vomiting, disorientation and nausea. We treated a total of eleven people, nine of whom we took to Děčín hospital. Fortunately, no one's life is in danger," said regional emergency services spokesman Patrik Christian Cmorej.
Doctors have not yet identified the exact toxin, but believe it was a concurrent effect of cannabinoids and alcohol. The probable source was baked goods with an unusual ingredient.
Law enforcement arrived at the scene on Saturday evening between 8 and 8:30 p.m. "The individuals became intoxicated by a substance not yet identified by us, probably an intoxicating substance. Three of those hospitalised remained under observation," added police spokesman Václav Krieger.
The case is now being handled by detectives from Rumburk, who are classifying it as general endangerment.
