KORUND operation uncovers prohibited substances in two shops in Mladá Boleslav
According to boleslavsky.denik.cz, an inspection focused on products containing potentially prohibited or regulated substances took place in the Mladá Boleslav district during the first week of May. It was part of a nationwide operation codenamed "KORUND".
Criminal police, together with the Customs Authority, State Agricultural and Food Inspection, Regional Hygiene Station and Czech Trade Inspection Authority, inspected two shops. Testing of selected products was carried out on site.
Investigators established the presence of semi-synthetic or synthetic THC substitutes in 36 seized products. Synthetic cannabinoids are created through chemical means — unlike substances naturally contained in the cannabis plant — and their effects can be sudden and unpredictable. They affect human perception, mood and behaviour.
A further 111 products were removed from sale. These were mainly hemp products and flavourings intended for vaping. "Herbal products intended for smoking must not contain cannabis, including industrial hemp," explained one of the criminal investigators.
Inspections also focused on substances such as kratom, which is among psychoactive substances whose sale is only permitted in specialised shops or is completely prohibited.
An investigator also warned of the specific risk associated with these products: "The problem with these substances is that each package may contain a different quantity and concentration of psychoactive or prohibited substances." The seized samples will be subjected to further expert examination.
According to the Czech Police, inspections of similar establishments in the region are continuing and further inspections are already planned.
