On Wednesday evening, an extensive police operation took place in Levín near Beroun. A local resident armed with a firearm opened fire when patrol cars arrived and then barricaded himself in a family villa. A specialist unit later found him inside without signs of life.
The entire incident occurred after someone reported to the 158 emergency line a man who was moving around the village armed with a weapon and threatening those around him. Patrol cars arrived within three minutes. However, upon arrival at the scene, the individual fired several times and subsequently hid in a residential building.
Approximately twelve police patrol cars and a specialist tactical unit responded to the scene. A helicopter with thermal imaging circled above the village throughout the operation. Police officers cordoned off the area around the building to protect local residents.
Around 8 p.m., the tactical unit entered the house. Inside, they discovered the body of a man who showed no signs of life. "Police had the situation under control throughout. No one else was injured; we will investigate all circumstances," police spokesperson Barbora Schneewissová told Novinky.cz.
The spokesperson also denied speculation that the man inside the building was holding children as hostages. "He was not holding any children as hostages there. Certainly not," she said. The operation in the village continued even after the body was discovered.
