Suspect in knife murder to appear in Herning

A 43-year-old man will appear on Wednesday afternoon in a constitutional court hearing in the Court in Herning, charged with the murder of a 57-year-old man in Hammerum. This has been confirmed by Mid and West Jutland Police according to B.T.

The murder took place on Monday evening at an address in Hammerum. Police received the report at 19.21 and attended the scene, but the 57-year-old man died despite life-saving first aid.

On Tuesday afternoon, the 43-year-old was arrested after he had been publicly wanted with name and photograph earlier that day. A citizen tip led police to the man, and the arrest proceeded without incident according to police.

The prosecution now considers there to be grounds for demanding his remand in custody.

Lead investigator Jim Hansen stated in connection with the public appeal that both the suspect and the victim were part of a drug abuse environment. Police directed suspicion at the 43-year-old on the basis of witness interviews and other investigative work.

Hansen simultaneously urged the suspect to turn himself in and asked members of the public with knowledge of his whereabouts to contact police — an appeal that proved fruitful.

It also emerged from the public appeal that the suspect allegedly had a recent wound or scar on his neck. Whether the injury stems from the incident on Monday evening or an earlier event has not yet been disclosed.
