Tårnby politician in court for leaking confidential committee information
The prosecution at Copenhagen Police is seeking a custodial sentence for a 53-year-old council politician from Tårnby who is charged with breaching the duty of confidentiality. This is reported by B.T.
The case concerns Liv Gam from the local party Tårnby Listen. She is charged with having disclosed confidential information that emerged at a meeting of Tårnby Municipality's Health and Care Committee to a person outside the committee.
According to the charge sheet, the person in question thereby received a tip about an upcoming service inspection of the municipality's specialised adult services area – an area that includes among other things offerings and services for adults with disabilities or mental health conditions.
The information was only accessible to committee members, according to the prosecution.
The case will be heard in Copenhagen City Court on Thursday 8 September in the morning. Copenhagen Police does not wish to disclose in advance to whom the information was allegedly leaked, or whether the person in question worked within the specialised adult services area.
It does not emerge from the charge sheet whether the alleged leak had concrete consequences.
Tårnby Municipality declines to comment directly on the case, but wrote to Ritzau: "When we as a municipality have documentation that an employee or politician has disclosed confidential information to someone outside, we as a public authority are obliged to act. We have no further comments in the case, but refer to the police."
Ritzau has unsuccessfully attempted to contact Liv Gam and her defence lawyer Mie Sønder Koch to hear how the politician responds to the charges.
