A Swedish police officer from Småland was seriously injured in Copenhagen during a football event when, according to witnesses, he intervened in a fight.

Violent clashes broke out on Wednesday evening at a public football screening on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen. A 32-year-old Swedish man, who works as a police officer in Eksjö, was caught up in the violence and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The Swedish officer was in the Danish capital on a private visit and was watching the World Cup match on a large screen along with other spectators. According to Swedish newspaper reports, he attempted to separate two parties when the fight broke out and was subsequently attacked himself.
His condition has since been extremely critical. Danish doctors have assessed his injuries as life-threatening.
Copenhagen Police issued a wanted notice for a suspected perpetrator, who voluntarily turned himself in to the authorities on Friday morning. He was arrested and charged with serious assault. On the same day, a hearing on remand detention was held in Copenhagen.
The Swedish officer's colleagues in his home region held a minute's silence for him, according to the police union Politiforbundet.
