Næstved District Court rejected compensation for survivors and relatives following the arson attack on the ferry Scandinavian Star in 1990. Now a decisive prerequisite in the ruling is being questioned.

Several key figures with insight into the case as well as a law professor question a supporting element in the district court's decision. The court in Næstved recently rejected a compensation claim from the Danish Maritime Authority. The claim was brought by 47 people who survived the fire disaster on the ferry 'Scandinavian Star', as well as relatives of the 159 who lost their lives in the arson attack in 1990.
Those who sued believed that the authority had failed in not reviewing the appalling safety conditions on the ship before the accident.
According to Politiken, criticism has now been directed at whether an important assumption in the ruling is even correct.
