Man arrested after serious assault on Islands Brygge
During a big-screen event in connection with the World Cup in football on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen, a 32-year-old man from neighbouring Sweden was attacked and seriously injured on Tuesday. The incident occurred amongst a large crowd that had gathered to watch the match.
After several days of investigation, a 31-year-old man presented himself to the authorities on Friday morning. That same day, he was brought before a judge in a preliminary hearing, which resulted in a ruling of closed remand in custody for 26 days.
The injured Swede remains in hospital in a critical condition, according to the prosecution. His condition is so serious that several Swedish news outlets earlier in the week published incorrect reports that he had died. This is not the case, however, as confirmed by the prosecutor.
The case is characterised as significantly more serious than ordinary assault incidents.
