A man who publicly went by the name 'Frank Jørgensen' from Nørrebro was placed in autumn 2020 among the most dangerous inmates on the heightened security wing at Enner Mark Prison near Horsens. Only a handful were aware that he was in fact deployed by the Police Intelligence Service with the operational codename 488A.
The background to the unusual operation was a heinous murder from 2016. The investigation work dragged on for years and only led to a final verdict nine years after the crime. A newly published book now maps out how investigators proceeded – including the use of a covert agent in the criminal environment.
The author of the work describes it as an account of systemic failure and argues that the book should be included in the curriculum at the Police Academy. The work examines the methods the police used to reach the verdict and the problems that arise when authorities operate with false identities in the underground environment.
