A Serbian criminal wanted by Belgian authorities for his alleged involvement in cocaine trafficking through the Port of Antwerp has been shot in the neck in central Barcelona.

A man of Serbian origin, subject to an international arrest warrant issued at the request of Belgian authorities, has been shot dead in central Barcelona. The incident took place on 10 June, although identification of the body took several days because the victim was carrying forged documents.
The man was walking through the centre of the Catalan city wearing sportswear when an armed individual approached him from behind and shot him at point-blank range in the back of the neck. The body fell directly in front of a police station, whilst about ten people queuing outside the building witnessed the scene.
The gunman fled in the direction of the Sagrada Familia, where he abandoned the weapon, his mobile telephone and a bicycle helmet under the seat at a bus stop. He was wearing neither gloves nor a mask, showing complete indifference towards the CCTV cameras that captured all his movements.
Identification of the deceased was particularly complicated due to the use of forged passports. Finally, fingerprints made it possible to establish his identity.
According to the newspaper El Periódico, the deceased held a prominent position within a Balkan criminal organisation that maintained close ties with criminal gangs active in Belgian territory.
Belgian justice had requested his international capture for his alleged involvement in cocaine trafficking through the Port of Antwerp. Belgian police had managed to identify him thanks to the decryption of an encrypted messaging application.
The Catalan regional police are continuing their search for the gunman. His photograph has been distributed to numerous police forces in different countries.
