Document fraud at border control
The National Police have detained 87 people at Palma Airport this year for attempting to travel with fake documents, according to Majorca Daily Bulletin. Officers also identified 201 travellers with alert records or active search status; 59 of them were subject to a current arrest warrant.
These figures come from the airport's border control, where nearly six million people were processed, an increase of 2.5% compared to 2025. The majority of passengers came from flights from the United Kingdom and Ireland, along with routes from the United States and Canada. Others arrived from Africa (Morocco and Algeria), the Middle East (United Arab Emirates) and various European countries, including Serbia, Albania and Moldova, as well as occasional flights from Italy.
Of the 87 detained, 34 were Albanian citizens; 16 Iranians, 13 Chinese, eight Algerians, five Somalis and three Afghans made up the bulk of arrests. There were also individuals from Russia, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Senegal, Peru, India and Vietnam.
Entry was denied to 24 travellers, who were returned to their countries of origin for failing to meet requirements to access Spanish territory. The National Police reported that the Entry and Exit System (EES) for border control has functioned correctly.
