A 17-year-old boy without a driving licence was detained by the Mossos after hitting a man riding an electric scooter and abandoning the accident scene in Torrefarrera.

A 17-year-old boy has been taken into police custody accused of causing the death of a 35-year-old man who was travelling on an electric scooter along a rural road in Torrefarrera, in the Segrià region. The incident occurred at around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday on Camí de Cunilles, a road that runs alongside the N-230.
According to the Catalan Traffic Service, the local police of the municipality were the first to arrive at the accident site. There they found the pedestrian's body, but no trace of the vehicle or of the person driving it. The driver allegedly fled after the collision without providing assistance or alerting emergency services.
Following a night-time search, the Mossos d'Esquadra managed to identify and capture the alleged perpetrator in the city of Lleida after midnight. During the arrest it was confirmed that the young man did not have authorisation to drive.
The judicial investigation points to three serious offences: causing death through extreme negligence at the wheel, failing to fulfil the legal obligation to assist the victim, and driving a motor vehicle without the required licence. The detainee will shortly be handed over to the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, which will assess his situation.
This death brings the toll of fatalities in road accidents recorded in Catalonia since the beginning of the year to 65.
