A person sleeping on Carrer Entença in Barcelona's Eixample district was attacked on Sunday night. A man approached while he was resting and attempted to set his clothing on fire with a lighter.
The incident occurred at approximately 21:30. A passer-by who witnessed the scene alerted the Mossos d'Esquadra, according to La Vanguardia.
Officers responded to the location and took statements from both the witness and the victim, who had sustained minor injuries. Nevertheless, the victim decided not to file a complaint against the attacker.
The regional police have opened an investigation to identify the perpetrator, who had left the area before the patrol unit arrived.
Organisations working with homeless people have expressed alarm over an attack that highlights the vulnerability of those sleeping rough.
