The fraudulent message is circulated under the name and image of the well-known Spanish supermarket chain. Its aim is to induce victims to provide personal or banking details under the promise of a non-existent prize.
This type of deception, known as phishing, uses recognised brands to generate trust. Mercadona is not behind this campaign nor has it organised any such giveaway.
The authorities and RTVE.es recommend not clicking on suspicious links that promise prizes or gifts, and never providing personal or financial information through these channels. If in doubt, users can verify any communication directly through the official channels of the company.
