A 32-year-old man has been detained in Collado Villalba as the alleged perpetrator of two violent robberies against elderly people, using an asphyxiation technique that caused one of the victims to lose consciousness.

Civil Guard officers have detained a 32-year-old man in Collado Villalba, a municipality in the Community of Madrid, on suspicion of involvement in two violent robberies against elderly people. The criminal method consisted of surprising the victims from behind, immobilising them using a chokehold, and, once deprived of consciousness, seizing their valuables.
The first attack took place on 26 April, according to reporting by El País. The arrested man, of Moroccan nationality, assaulted a 75-year-old man by applying an asphyxiation technique from martial arts. After rendering him unconscious, he seized his mobile phone and 140 euros in cash.
Days later, the same suspected criminal ambushed a nonagenarian at the entrance to her home. He knocked her down violently and took her earrings, her handbag and 45 euros.
The identification of the suspect was made possible by close collaboration between the local Municipal Police and the Civil Guard. Following his capture, he was brought before the judicial authority accused of two counts of robbery with violence.
The severity of the incidents is evident from the fact that one of the victims suffered a transitory loss of consciousness as a result of the assault.
