Arrest in Pasaia for drug trafficking: hashish found in vehicle at municipal impound

The Ertzaintza arrested a 40-year-old man on Friday in the Gipuzkoa municipality of Pasaia on suspicion of a public health crime. The operation took place at the municipal vehicle impound, where the arrested man had appeared to recover his car.

Days earlier, a tow truck had taken the vehicle to the impound after it was parked irregularly in a no-parking zone. The authorities already suspected that the car could be concealing drugs, so a police unit travelled to the location at the moment of the handover.

When officers identified themselves, the vehicle owner claimed that he did not use it frequently and that he did not have the keys in his possession. However, the police found that one door was not locked, which allowed them to access the interior. Following an inspection, they located two bags beneath the front seats containing a total of thirty packets of hashish, with a combined weight of 2.6 kilograms.

Following the arrest, the suspect was taken to police facilities. In the hours that follow he will be placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
