Fourteen possible victims of sexual assault at confectionery shop in San Sebastián
The Ertzaintza has identified 14 possible victims, aged between 10 and 18, of alleged sexual assaults committed in a confectionery shop in Donostia. The suspect, 22 years old, remains in provisional prison.
Investigation into sexual assaults at confectionery shop expands to 14 victims
The Ertzaintza investigation into alleged sexual assaults that occurred at a confectionery shop in Donostia/San Sebastián has so far identified 14 possible victims, all of whom were aged between 10 and 18 at the time of the incidents. This has been confirmed by the Basque Country Department of Security.
The case began on 30 June 2026, when the Ertzaintza became aware of two alleged sexual assaults on a minor, which occurred on 25 and 26 of that same month inside the establishment. Initial enquiries led to the identification of the alleged perpetrator: a 22-year-old man who ran the shop. He was arrested that same day and, after being brought before a judge, the judge ordered his remand in provisional prison, a situation that continues.
According to ABC, on 8 July 2026 the SECIC—the Central Section for Criminal Investigation of the Ertzaintza, which has jurisdiction over serial sexual liberty crimes—took over the investigation when new complaints and evidence emerged suggesting similar incidents.
Since then, joint analysis of the evidence, witness statements and information provided by members of the public have made it possible to progressively increase the number of identified victims. The 14 possible victims have given statements to the regional police and have described incidents of a similar nature, providing information of interest to the investigation.
The first reported incidents date back to 2020, which puts the investigated period at approximately six years. The investigation also reveals that some of the incidents occurred during a time when the suspect himself was under 18. These actions have been recorded in separate proceedings known to the Children's Prosecutor's Office.
The SECIC continues to analyse the evidence and information obtained with the aim of clarifying all the facts, determining any possible connection between them and identifying any other people who may have been affected. The investigation remains open and the possibility of identifying further victims has not been ruled out.
Given the breadth of the time period covered by the case, the Ertzaintza has again requested public cooperation. Any person who may have experienced incidents of a similar nature, allegedly linked to the suspect—including situations that occurred in previous years and were not reported at the time—can contact the regional police by calling 112 or by visiting any Ertzain-etxea office in person.
