A labour adviser at a ceramic company in Castellón has been sentenced to two years' imprisonment for altering workers' payroll documents over nearly three years to misappropriate salary differences, totalling €57,757 in damages.

A labour management specialist employed by a ceramics sector company in Castellón has received a two-year prison sentence for a funds diversion scheme that netted her nearly €58,000, according to ABC.
The woman, who had been providing legal support to the firm since 2016, was responsible for preparing the documents determining what each worker should receive. The total sum of all remuneration constituted the monthly expenditure that management authorised for staff.
Between spring 2018 and February 2021, the defendant executed a scheme consisting of artificially increasing the amounts for certain employees in the documents she submitted to management. She then sent the financial institution instructions with the worker's details, the amount allegedly owed, and the bank account for payment.
However, in parallel she ordered additional transfers to an account for which she was the beneficiary, for an amount equal to the difference between what the employee was actually entitled to and what she had recorded in the reports to management.
The First Section of the Castellón territorial High Court found her responsible for continued falsification of commercial documents, along with aggravated fraud. The final ruling imposes, in addition to imprisonment, an economic penalty of €1,080 and payment of court costs. Notably, the affected company has not demanded restitution of the misappropriated funds.
The court took into account mitigating circumstances such as undue procedural delay and the defendant's acknowledgement of the facts. Thanks to the plea agreement reached between the parties, the sentenced woman will be able to avoid deprivation of liberty if she maintains impeccable conduct over the next four years.
