A resident of Ciutadella, in Menorca, was sentenced on Tuesday to six months imprisonment plus a fine of 800 euros after admitting his responsibility for a drug trafficking offence. The man had requested a consignment containing 152 grammes of cannabis, which was to be sent from Miranda del Ebro, province of Burgos, from the facilities of a parcel delivery company.

On 16 October 2024, officers in the Burgos locality intercepted the shipment before it left their facilities. Upon opening it, they discovered the illicit substance, whose value on the black market amounted to 952 euros. As the recipient lived in the Santandria housing development and the intention was to pass the goods on to other people, the National Police subsequently arrested him in Ciutadella.

At the hearing, the accused accepted the charges, which allowed a reduction in his sentence for pleading guilty. The court imposed the custodial sentence together with the financial penalty.
