Two men sentenced to twelve years in prison for rape in Valencia linked to drug payment
A Valencia court has imposed the minimum sentence for aggravated sexual assault on two Romanians who forced a young woman to have sexual relations in a van. The victim's boyfriend, then a minor, had proposed the abuse as a way to settle a cocaine debt.

A Valencia court has sentenced two individuals to twelve years in prison after admitting their participation in a rape committed in March of last year in an uninhabited area of the city. The trial by consent took place on 23 June before the Third Section of the Provincial Court of Appeal.
The assault took place in the early hours of 21 March 2025. The victim, accompanied by her partner—who was then seventeen years old—and the two sentenced men, all of Romanian origin and with no criminal record, had travelled by vehicle to the Cabanyal district to acquire narcotics. Hours later, they ended up in a remote area near La Torre, away from any observers.
It was in that location where the young woman's boyfriend demanded that she have sexual relations with one of the now-convicted men, justifying this by saying they needed to compensate for the cost of the substance they had acquired. The girl refused categorically, but the minor and the second accused intimidated her to remain in the van with the perpetrator. Once alone, he stripped her of her underwear and penetrated her against her will, whilst the other two—including her own boyfriend—stood guard outside to ensure that no one interrupted the attack.
The prosecution had sought thirteen years of imprisonment for each adult, but the defences obtained the minimum legal sentence. The crime was classified as sexual assault with penetration aggravated by the collaboration of multiple persons, as defined in article 180 of the Criminal Code, with a sentencing range of between twelve and fifteen years according to the 2022 law.
In addition to the prison time, the ruling imposes on both five years under supervision, a fifteen-year restriction on communicating with the victim or coming within half a kilometre of her, and a prohibition on exercising any profession that involves regular contact with minors for seventeen years.
The victim did not file a private complaint nor seek compensation. It was the prosecution that maintained the accusation, treating the responsibility of the perpetrator equally with that of the accomplice who stood guard outside. The boyfriend, tried in the juvenile system, received only corrective measures for assault, without the sexual crime being attributed to him.
The lawyers for the convicted men will attempt to have their clients deported once they have served one-third of their sentence.
