An individual has been remanded in custody pending charges of drug trafficking, following a pursuit that ended in the town of Tembleque in Toledo province. Officers discovered a haul of five kilograms of cocaine hidden behind a false panel in his saloon car. The arrest was made possible thanks to joint work between the Toledo Civil Guard and the Madrid Civil Guard, according to details provided by ABC.
It all began in the Spanish capital, when a patrol noticed that a vehicle was committing serious traffic violations on the public highway. When attempting to stop it, the driver behind the wheel ignored orders and accelerated onto the A-4 motorway heading south.
Members of Toledo's Traffic Sub-sector received the alert and managed to block the vehicle at kilometre 107 of that road. Once immobilised, the suspect's agitated behaviour led the officers to search the car with particular care.
At the rear they noticed structural changes that suggested a hiding place. After removing the base where the spare wheel rests, they found a trapdoor that opened onto a hidden cavity. Inside lay four packages containing a white, compact substance, later identified as cocaine.
The seized drug totalled five kilograms of high purity, with a price on the illegal market estimated at around €150,000. The suspect was brought before a judge and the magistrate ordered him remanded in custody without bail on suspicion of an offence against public health.
