A Guardia Civil officer was injured after being struck by a car during an operation against petaqueo carried out in the early hours of Tuesday on La Barrosa beach, Chiclana de la Frontera (Cádiz). The driver, already arrested, reportedly deliberately rammed the uniformed officer while pursuing him on foot.
The operation was part of an Armed Institute device aimed at dismantling the supply chains that provision irregular vessels engaged in drug trafficking. The Integral Exterior Surveillance System (SIVE) spotted a high-speed boat approaching the coast to receive provisions and logistical support.
In response, an operation was deployed with members of the Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) and patrols from the Chiclana station. The police presence caused the vessel to change course towards the sea and the individuals on land to flee.
A USECIC officer ran after one of those involved, who managed to get into a car. The individual started the engine and rammed the officer, hitting him before fleeing the area. The Guardia Civil officer, despite contusions and bruising, was able to tell his colleagues which way the vehicle had escaped and what it looked like, information that allowed them to locate it within minutes.
Two patrols found the car when it entered a closed-off street. Rather than surrender, the man attempted another escape and collided several times with official vehicles blocking the exit. Two other officers were injured in these collisions. Finally, Armed Institute personnel managed to neutralise and arrest the suspect.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the courts for assault on authority, traffic safety violations and crimes linked to drug trafficking logistics. The investigation remains open and further arrests related to the incident are not ruled out.
