Driver tests positive for alcohol after fatal accident on Manacor-Porto Cristo road

Drunk driver charged with reckless homicide following passenger death in Mallorca
A 35-year-old driver who tested positive on an alcohol breathalyser test faces a charge of reckless homicide following an accident that occurred on Sunday night on the Manacor-Porto Cristo road, according to the Majorca Daily Bulletin.
A 23-year-old woman, who was travelling as a passenger in the back of a Volkswagen Lupo, died when the vehicle left the road and collided with a tree shortly before midnight. Firefighters had to extract her from the wreckage of the car; paramedics were unable to save her life.
The other passenger, a 41-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Son Espases Hospital. The driver, who sustained minor injuries, was treated at Manacor Hospital.
According to the initial assessment by the Guardia Civil, which is responsible for the investigation, the vehicle turned to the left, overturned and collided with the tree, and the probable cause of the accident was driver distraction.
