Driver in multiple hit-and-run in A Coruña to remain in pre-trial detention
The judge rejects the defendant's requests for provisional release and psychiatric admission following the vehicle that struck six pedestrians in A Coruña in August 2025.

The magistrate-judge of court number 1 of the Court of First Instance of A Coruña has rejected a request to change the detention status of the author of the multiple hit-and-run that occurred in the city centre a year ago, in August 2025. According to ABC, the defendant will remain in pre-trial detention, held in custody and without bail.
The defendant's lawyer filed an appeal in which he requested, firstly, provisional release with precautionary measures, including medical monitoring at a hospital in Monforte and a ban on entering the city of A Coruña. As an alternative, the defence requested that pre-trial detention be replaced with admission to psychiatric care in a closed-regime facility at the Hospital Marítimo de Oza, also in A Coruña.
The magistrate dismissed both requests and maintained the defendant's personal status without modifications.
The facts date back to midday on 27 August 2025, when six people were injured on Calle Juana de Vega, in the heart of A Coruña. Municipal sources cited by Europa Press explained that the car struck the pedestrians when they "were crossing properly" at a zebra crossing. The driver himself acknowledged to officers that the vehicle was parked in a reserved area of that street and that he started driving at the moment the people began to cross.
