Pursuit and two operations result in four arrests for cocaine trafficking in Puertollano

National Police detained four people in Puertollano (Ciudad Real) as part of a Citizen Security operation aimed at combating organised crime, according to information released by the force in a press statement reported by ABC.

Officers, deployed both in uniform and in plain clothes at strategic points in the town, detected a drug consignment aboard a vehicle with two occupants on a main street in Puertollano and attempted to intercept it.

Escape, collision and assault on a dwelling

Upon noticing the police presence, the two occupants embarked on what National Police described as a "dangerous escape" and attempted to dispose of the merchandise by throwing it onto a rooftop. During the pursuit, the vehicle struck one of the officers who was attempting to stop them, leaving him injured. Shortly afterwards, the car collided with a private residence and with a police vehicle; the two fugitives continued on foot whilst several officers chased them.

One of them attempted to hide in someone else's home to evade the officers, without success. Both were eventually arrested and are facing charges of crimes against public health, against road safety, assault on an authority officer, breaking and entering, and criminal damage.

The package of cocaine recovered from the rooftop weighed 1,147 grammes and was of high purity; its street value was estimated to have reached €322,000, according to National Police. Officers also seized €1,500 in cash.

Search of a flat and two further arrests

Information gathered during the operations led, the following day, to the entry and search of a flat in Puertollano where cocaine was allegedly being manufactured and distributed. A man and a woman were arrested there.

At the property, officers found doses of cocaine already prepared for sale, €2,760 in cash, shotgun cartridges, bladed weapons, mobile phones and jewellery of unknown origin which, according to the investigation, had been used as payment for the drug.

Assault on a police officer at the courthouse

The day concluded with another incident: at the entrance to Puertollano courthouse, where National Police had deployed a security operation for the transfer of the detainees, an officer was injured by an assault from several relatives and friends of the arrested individuals who were attempting to prevent their presentation to the courts.
