Four Moroccans expelled from Spain after assaulting Civil Guard officers in Ceuta
A court in Ceuta replaced a two-year prison sentence with five years of expulsion for four migrants who injured three officers.
Judicial expulsion following assault on Civil Guard in Ceuta
Four Moroccan migrants have been expelled to Morocco by court order after assaulting three officers of the Civil Guard in Ceuta, according to El Mundo. The incident took place last Wednesday at 20:30 hours in the vicinity of the Sarchal neighbourhood.
The four accused were in the area with another group of migrants carrying pointed objects and bladed weapons, which they had previously used to threaten several residents of the neighbourhood. The Civil Guard responded to the scene following calls from citizens and proceeded to arrest four of them after a pursuit.
During that pursuit, the detainees lunged at three officers and caused them light injuries, according to judicial sources cited by Efe. The four admitted their involvement in the incident and accepted a sentence of two years imprisonment for an offence of assault, a sentence which the Ceuta court replaced with five years of expulsion from Spain.
The four are part of the group that carried out the mass entry into the city on 30 July.
Body found in northern bay of Ceuta
Migrant pressure also resulted in a new fatality this weekend. The Civil Guard located the lifeless body of a young sub-Saharan migrant late on Saturday in waters near Punta Almina, in the northern bay of Ceuta, after a military vessel alerted authorities to the presence of a body in the sea.
The GEAS recovered the body, which was wearing only a wetsuit and had been dead for a short time. Given the location of the discovery, far from the border, investigators are considering the possibility that the young man had attempted to reach Ceuta by swimming from Morocco or that he had jumped into the water from a vessel without managing to reach land. The body was taken to the Maritime Service base for an autopsy.
