A man has been remanded in prison following the dismantling of a drug sales and distribution hub on Avenida Los Castros, 137, in Santander, according to Google News ES — Crime (es). The operation was carried out on 6 August by the National Police and Customs Surveillance of the Tax Authority in Cantabria.
During a search of the address of those involved, officers seized 945 grammes of cocaine—922 of which distributed in eight vacuum-sealed bags and the remainder in smaller wrappings—998 grammes of cannabis resin, 11,750 euros in cash, several bladed weapons and other items.
Along with the detainee, his partner was arrested during the operation, although she was subsequently released. Both are being investigated as suspected perpetrators of offences against public health and money laundering.
Investigation launched at the beginning of the year
The investigation began in early 2026, when the unit specialising in offences against public health received information about an individual who could be engaged in the sale and distribution of narcotics, both in Santander and in other municipalities in Cantabria. He was attributed with retail sales of cocaine and even quantities that could reach 500 grammes.
On the basis of that information, officers began proceedings to identify the suspect and verify the veracity of the alleged illicit activity. The inquiries confirmed that the person under investigation operated fundamentally in the vicinity of his own address, located next to the Los Castros sports facility.
Officers observed that the person under investigation adopted various security measures on a permanent basis to detect any police presence and avoid surveillance or monitoring. His standard of living, which did not correspond to his declared employment, prompted the National Police to coordinate with Customs Surveillance to continue the investigation jointly and determine possible money laundering offences.
Operation with support from specialist units
The 6 August operation had prior judicial authorisation and the backing of the Special Operational Security Group (G.O.E.S.), which specialises in qualified security operations. Following the arrests, the two detainees were taken to the police station, where they made statements to officers.
The judge ordered the man to be remanded in prison, whilst the woman was released. The search of the address enabled evidence and proof to be gathered that established the involvement of both parties in drug trafficking and alleged money laundering.
Neighbourhood concern in Los Castros district
According to the National Police, the sales point had generated concern and insecurity among residents of the district owing to the constant presence of people arriving in the area seeking drugs. The operation has succeeded in eliminating that cocaine and cannabis distribution hub.
