A joint operation by the National Police and Civil Guard in Lucena del Puerto dismantled an organisation that allegedly defrauded the State Public Employment Service of more than 150,000 euros using digital certificates and third-party data without authorisation.

Three individuals arrested in Lucena del Puerto (Huelva) following a coordinated operation by National Police and Civil Guard officers. The group allegedly managed to misappropriate more than 150,000 euros from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE) through the unlawful acquisition of subsidies and public aid.
The investigation began when officers detected signs that several people were receiving state benefits without being entitled to them. After analysing the documentation and tracing the path of the funds, they discovered that the alleged fraudsters used digital certificates and assumed the identity of third parties to access the processing of aid applications.
The defrauded funds were withdrawn mainly from bank terminals. Afterwards, the money left the country through various channels for cross-border transfer of capital. The network allegedly affected more than seventy individuals of different nationalities whose personal data were used without permission to commit the offence.
On 10 June, the exploitation phase of the investigation was executed. In the search carried out in Lucena del Puerto, computer equipment, data storage devices related to the illicit activity and a vehicle were seized. The three arrested individuals were brought before the courts.
