Man arrested in Albacete after extorting 6,280 euros from Valladolid victim
The National Police have arrested a man from Albacete accused of extorting a resident of Valladolid who had made contact through a social network with a woman to hire sexual services, according to information from Google News ES — Crime (es) based on a statement from the National Police of Albacete.
The investigation began following a complaint filed at the police station in Valladolid. The victim explained that shortly after making that contact on social media, he began receiving threatening calls and messages from someone who identified himself as the woman's security manager. That person demanded payment of various amounts, threatening to locate the victim's home address and cause him serious harm if he did not comply.
The victim made several payments and bank transfers totalling 6,280 euros. The arrested man is listed as the account holder of an account into which 1,600 euros of that amount was deposited.
Officers identified the arrested man as a necessary collaborator in an organisation dedicated to extorting men who made contact with women through dating applications and social media.
As part of the same investigation, eight other people have been identified in different parts of the country as "money mules": they received transfers of the extorted money into accounts in their names in exchange for a small percentage.
The National Police have recommended not giving in to this type of threat and reporting the facts as soon as possible to facilitate the identification of those responsible.
