Man arrested in Alicante on European warrant for stealing €29,000 worth of alcohol in Austria

Fugitive sentenced to three years located in Alicante after eleven robberies from Austrian supermarkets
National Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in Alicante against whom a European detention order had been issued by Austrian authorities, according to ABC. The arrested man was sought for offences against property committed in January of this year.
According to the police statement, the detainee participated alongside other persons in a series of robberies with force in Austrian supermarkets. At least eleven thefts of alcoholic beverages totalling 29,187 euros have been attributed to him.
Once the European detention order was issued, officers began procedures to locate the fugitive. He was finally identified and arrested by a civil security patrol in the city of Alicante.
The man had fled Austria after being sentenced to a term of three years of imprisonment. Following the corresponding police proceedings, he has been placed at the disposal of the Central Court of Investigation of the National Audience, the body competent to process his subsequent extradition to the requesting country.
