The National Police detained a man on Friday in Ceuta as the suspected perpetrator of a sexual assault against a 22-year-old woman in the Calamocarro area, near Trampolín beach. According to Google News ES — Crime (es), the incident took place shortly after 12.30 hours.
The victim received initial assistance at the scene and was transferred to Ceuta University Hospital for medical attention and assessment. The detainee, a Moroccan national like the victim, was taken to the Superior Police Headquarters in Ceuta, where investigators are continuing inquiries to determine the circumstances of the alleged attack.
Police sources clarified that, based on information available at this time, it cannot be described as rape, although the incident is being investigated as a possible sexual assault offence. The final classification will depend on the results of medical tests, the victim's statement, and other proceedings undertaken.
The Calamocarro area is situated near Trampolín beach, a location where over a thousand migrants from Morocco congregated following the mass arrival recorded on 30 July. So far, it has not emerged that the detainee is connected to that migration episode.
Police sources expressed concern about the volume of reports and proceedings opened during this period, which they place at more than a dozen. In parallel, several specialised officers deployed from Madrid remain in the autonomous city to reinforce surveillance and detect possible networks or situations of sexual exploitation that could affect minors who entered Ceuta during the crisis.
Judicial and police sources consulted assure that, to date, no case of prostitution related to those minors has been confirmed. Investigators are maintaining, nonetheless, active surveillance in view of the risk that they may find themselves in a situation of special vulnerability.
