The incident took place on a street in that district of the Granada capital, when Public Safety officers were conducting crime prevention operations. The officers located the individual because they were aware that several active judicial requests weighed against him.
Specifically, the detainee had accumulated three warrants issued by Granada courts for offences of assault against a law enforcement officer, robbery with force against property and theft. To this was added an immediate background: just two days earlier, other colleagues had attempted to identify the same man, but he had fled on foot and managed to escape through the streets of the area.
With that history, the police officers ordered him to stop and proceeded with his identification. During a search of his belongings they found a short replica firearm in brown and black. The replica, although not a real firearm, had an appearance capable of being mistaken for an authentic pistol.
The situation became tense when the officers informed the suspect that he would be detained pursuant to the outstanding judicial requests. According to the police account, the man reacted violently and put up intense resistance to avoid being handcuffed and transported to the police vehicle.
During the struggle, the arrestee threw punches, elbows and kicks at the officers, causing injuries to two of them. Both police officers received medical assistance subsequently as a consequence of the intervention.
Finally, the officers managed to restrain the suspect and transported him to continue with proceedings. The replica pistol was seized and incorporated into the police action.
