Arrested in Pasaia for attempted hit-and-run and threats with blade against two young people
A 30-year-old man was detained in the early hours of Thursday in Pasaia, according to ertzaintza.euskadi.eus, accused of an alleged crime of serious threats with a blade and attempted hit-and-run against two young people aged 15 and 19.
The incident occurred shortly before midnight in Pasai Antxo. According to witnesses who alerted police, the driver drove his vehicle onto a pavement at high speed whilst the two victims, both of North African origin, were walking on it. The young people had to move aside and flee to avoid being run down.
Following the attempted hit-and-run, the driver abandoned the vehicle and pursued the two young people on foot, making repeated death threats whilst wielding a knife.
Ertzaintza officers, deployed immediately to the scene, managed to locate and identify the perpetrator in the same area. The investigation pointed to the fact that the detainee had serious disputes with a relative of one of the victims, which had apparently motivated the attack.
The arrested man was taken to police headquarters to complete the necessary procedures and will be presented before the Judicial Authority.
