Arrest in La Salud neighbourhood after two months of threats
The Local Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife arrested a 76-year-old man, identified as J.Y.H., on Saturday for the repeated death threats made against his wife over the past few months. According to ABC, officers attended the home in the La Salud neighbourhood where both live after receiving notification of an episode of high aggression.
The detainee was at the residence at the time of the police intervention. Officers interviewed the victim, aged 75, who presented a severe state of anxiety.
The woman told police that she has spent the past two months locking herself in her bedroom to sleep as a protective measure against the continuous threats. She also reported that the detainee forces her to carry out all household tasks and restricts her access to her own money.
During the police operation, one of the couple's sons attended, who confirmed that the father's aggression and the frequency of threats towards his mother had intensified notably in recent weeks. The son stated that he and his siblings fear that their father might carry out the threats.
Following his arrest, J.Y.H. was initially taken to a health centre and subsequently to police headquarters, being placed at the disposal of the judicial authority.
