Man arrested in Yuncos for attempted murder and air-conditioning unit thefts in La Sagra
The Guardia Civil arrested a 49-year-old man with a criminal record for theft, accused of attempted murder against a security guard in Illescas and several property-related offences in Toledo.
Man arrested in Yuncos for attempted murder and series of thefts in Toledo region
The Guardia Civil has arrested a 49-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of attempted murder—resulting in injuries—and various property offences committed in the La Sagra region of Toledo, according to a statement issued by the force and reported by ABC.
The investigation began on 16 July, when officials at IES Profesor Emilio Lledó, in Numancia de la Sagra, reported the theft of nine air-conditioning compressors that had recently been installed at the educational centre, valued at 6,000 euros.
From the institute to dismantling in Yuncler
Initial enquiries, carried out in coordination with Numancia de la Sagra's Local Police, made it possible to identify the vehicle allegedly used in the theft and to establish that at least two people had been involved in the incident. The investigation later revealed that the stolen material was taken to the town of Yuncler for dismantling and subsequent sale, leading to the identification of a third person allegedly linked to the case.
The same vehicle, a previous assault in Illescas
During the investigation, officers established that in early June, that same vehicle had been used in a more serious incident: an assault constituting attempted murder against a security guard at the Señorío Plaza shopping centre in Illescas, when the woman was carrying out her duties. Up to that point, the perpetrator of that attack had not been identified.
The detainee is also attributed with theft from an establishment in the same shopping centre, committed one day before the theft at the institute; the unlawful appropriation of the vehicle used in the various criminal acts; and an offence against road safety for driving without a valid driving licence.
Extensive criminal record and remand in custody
The suspect, with an extensive criminal record for theft involving force and violence, was arrested in mid-August in the town of Yuncos. Following completion of police proceedings, he was remanded to the District Court acting as the guard court in Illescas, which ordered his remand in custody.
The investigation also resulted in the charging of a second man, aged 29, for receiving stolen property from the theft at IES Profesor Emilio Lledó.
