National Police detained a man in Zaragoza accused of sexually assaulting his two-year-old daughter and distributing images of her via the internet, according to Google News ES — Crime. The operation was completed within 24 hours of receiving the initial reports.
The investigation was activated after receiving urgent reports from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), a US-based organisation whose alerts were channelled through the United States Department of Homeland Security (Homeland Security Investigations). The alerts indicated the existence of files stored on a cloud storage platform showing signs of serious crimes against a minor, and suggested that the perpetrator was located in Spain and had permanent access to the victim.
Investigators immediately identified the alleged perpetrator as the child's father, with whom she lived at the same address. Once the suspect's identity was confirmed and the risk to the minor assessed, officers travelled to the residence and proceeded with the arrest.
During the search, the minor was placed under police protection and several electronic devices were seized. Analysis of the material found confirmed the existence of abundant content related to child sexual exploitation, allegedly produced, stored and distributed by the detainee.
The investigation also revealed the use of artificial intelligence tools to generate images of child sexual exploitation through manipulation of photographs and videos of minors obtained from social media.
Furthermore, officers located video files that would show secret recordings made from the investigated person's residence towards the neighbouring property, capturing images of a neighbour inside her home, which constitutes an alleged crime against privacy.
National Police reported on Wednesday in a press release that the detainee was placed at the disposal of the courts as the alleged perpetrator of two counts of sexual assault, one count of corruption of a minor and one count against privacy. A judge ordered his remand in custody.
