Man arrested red-handed after thefts from four vehicles in Ponferrada

Arrested in the early hours after forcing four cars in Ponferrada
National Police at the Ponferrada Local Station arrested a man as the suspected perpetrator of burglary with force after catching him red-handed inside several vehicles parked on public roads, according to Google News ES — Crime.
The incident occurred at 04:10 on 27 August 2026. A uniformed patrol carrying out night-time surveillance duties was travelling along Avenida del Ferrocarril when, as they approached the Caballero Templario roundabout, officers observed a man leaning against a Citroën C2 vehicle.
On noticing the police presence, the man fled in the direction of the railway station and threw several objects to the ground beside the rear of the vehicle. Officers proceeded to halt and identify him. Among the abandoned items were a red glove and an Opinel brand penknife with a blade approximately seven centimetres long and a wooden handle.
Officers established that the front right door of the Citroën C2 was open, the glove compartment ransacked and documentation scattered inside. Faced with the evidence, the detainee initially offered contradictory accounts of his flight, before eventually admitting that he had broken the windows of other vehicles in order to steal valuable items, both on Avenida del Ferrocarril and on Avenida de Portugal.
A subsequent inspection of the area allowed officers to locate three other vehicles showing signs consistent with burglary with force. Inside one of them they found the detainee's own mobile telephone. Several of the affected cars showed damage to windows and doors as a result of the force used to gain entry to their interiors.
The recovered items were returned to their legitimate owners once arrangements for their identification had been completed. The detainee was taken to police facilities for the corresponding procedures and subsequently placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority as the suspected perpetrator of offences of burglary with force and criminal damage.
