The Guardia Civil arrested a 40-year-old man as the suspected perpetrator of dozens of robberies across three provinces, including 22 vehicle thefts.

The Guardia Civil arrested a 40-year-old man in Toledo as the suspected perpetrator of 44 offences in Madrid, Cuenca and Toledo, within the framework of operation 'Rurejo-1'.
The detainee is accused of 18 thefts from businesses, 22 vehicle thefts, ten criminal damage offences, four thefts from inside cars and one continuing offence against road safety. Officers recovered 19 vehicles and various objects valued at more than 350,000 euros.
The investigation began in late 2025, when an increase in shop robberies and reports of disappearing cars were detected. The ROCA team of the Tarancón Company determined that both types of offences were linked and that the same person was committing them, according to the EFE news agency.
The suspected perpetrator employed advanced electronic equipment to decipher the frequency codes of car locks. Once he gained access to them, he used these vehicles to travel to different localities and force entry into shops, in order to steal money from cash registers.
Following an exhaustive investigation, officers clarified the offences committed in numerous towns in Cuenca province, as well as in the neighbouring provinces of Toledo and Madrid.
The exploitation phase of the operation culminated in an operation in Toledo, where officers intercepted the suspect whilst driving despite having never obtained a driving licence, according to EFE.
Among the recovered items were diagnostic tools, frequency decoders, clothing used during the robberies, keys, documentation and vehicle parts intended for the second-hand market.
The investigation has been supervised by the Civil Section and the Lower Court of First Instance Plaza no. 2 in Tarancón, where the detainee has been handed over together with the case file and recovered items.
