Man arrested for selling drugs near San Francisco soup kitchen in Pontevedra

An individual was arrested on Friday by officers of the Pontevedra Local Police in the vicinity of the charitable soup kitchen managed by the Franciscan Order in the Pontevedra city centre. The arrest followed a citizen report alerting to the presence of a person offering narcotic substances in that area.

The events occurred around 17:00 on Friday last, when a citizen contacted the 092 Operations Centre to report that a man was selling drugs on Rúa de San Francisco, very close to the soup kitchen that the Franciscan Order runs in the area.

A patrol was sent immediately to the indicated location. Upon arrival, officers located a man matching the description provided by the complainant. After identifying him, they carried out a search in which they found a small quantity of substance with the characteristics of cocaine, distributed in several doses prepared for sale.

The detainee, 39 years old and a resident of the city, was taken to police headquarters for the corresponding proceedings. He was subsequently placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, who will have to determine his procedural situation.

This type of intervention is part of the ordinary surveillance operation that the Local Police maintain in the urban centre of Pontevedra, especially in those areas where vulnerable people concentrate who may be an easy target for drug petty trafficking.
