The National Police arrested a 21-year-old youth in Almería as the alleged perpetrator of a violent sexual assault against a 44-year-old woman. The incident occurred in a motorhome parking area, where the arrested man attempted to abuse the victim before attempting to escape by swimming out to sea.
According to reports from Maldita.es, a passer-by surprised the attacker on top of the woman, partially naked. Upon being spotted, the suspect fled and hid in vegetation near the parking area.
Shortly afterwards, the first police patrols arrived at the scene and found the victim with various injuries. Meanwhile, the attacker fled into the sea for approximately one hundred metres, where he had to be assisted by five officers who were pursuing him.
The woman was treated at the scene by emergency services and subsequently taken to the Maternal and Child Hospital in Almería, where the protocol for responding to sexual assaults was activated. Some media outlets reported that the victim was of German nationality.
The detainee, who showed clear signs of exhaustion after being rescued from the water, was stabilised and handed over to police. He has been charged with sexual assault and grievous bodily harm.
