Deportivo fan arrested for sexual assault in Valladolid bar before promotion playoff

Arrests and altercations in Valladolid before First Division promotion match
National Police in Valladolid arrested a man identified as a Deportivo de la Coruña supporter in the early hours of Sunday as the suspected perpetrator of sexual assault by non-consensual touching of a person in a bar in the city centre.
According to ABC, the Government sub-delegate, Jacinto Canales, conveyed details of these incidents to Europa Press. The events occurred prior to the match between Real Valladolid and the Coruña side, which is contested for promotion to the First Division and prompted the travel of numerous supporters to the capital of Pisuerga.
The arrested man was not the only person detained for this type of offence during the day. National Police also arrested another man, who would have no connection with Deportivo, for alleged touching in a different establishment in the same leisure zone.
The operation deployed as a result of the massive concentration of fans also intervened in several fights, although none of them resulted in a formal complaint. Reports were drawn up for the use of flares and smoke canisters, both in bars during the early hours and in Plaza Mayor throughout the morning, according to Canales's explanation.
The sub-delegate announced that new complaints would be added to these reports for the use of pyrotechnics recorded during the afternoon in Plaza Marcos Fernández, in the Parquesol neighbourhood, where numerous supporters of both teams gathered.
The match takes place against a backdrop of high tension. Two weeks ago, six young ultras from Real Valladolid were arrested in connection with a stone-throwing fight, according to available information on incidents prior to the encounter.
