Motorbike accident in Palma leads to two arrests for synthetic drug trafficking
The National Police detained a man and woman on Monday morning on General Riera Street in Palma as suspected perpetrators of a drug trafficking offence, according to information from Google News ES — Crime (es) based on a statement from the Police Headquarters.
At around 07:30 hours, a patrol from the Citizen Assistance Unit attended the scene after a motorbike accident was reported involving two injured persons. Upon arrival, officers found the couple seated on the road surface and the motorbike parked next to them.
After requesting an ambulance, the police officers approached to assist them. The man was carrying a bum bag that he was unwilling to release and displayed an uncooperative and evasive attitude. Upon inspection of its contents, officers found a large quantity of empty plastic sachets, three small bags containing a pink powdered substance and other items related to drugs.
An inspection of the motorbike yielded a second finding: a hidden compartment containing a rucksack that held suspected materials for manufacturing synthetic psychoactive substances, including a small electric hotplate, a 1,000 millilitre bottle of serum, a container with orange-pink liquid with a dropper and another bottle containing clear liquid.
Already in the ambulance, the man told officers that all the substances were for personal consumption, that he manufactured them himself and that he usually took the materials to various parties. The motorbike was rented by the woman, who acknowledged that from time to time the man paid her to transport him to different locations with the vehicle. The woman admitted suspecting that he could be drug trafficking, though she denied knowing whether he was carrying anything at that moment. She added that he was riding the motorbike moments before the accident.
Officers established that the man lacked a driving licence, which added a traffic safety offence to the charges already against him. Both were detained as suspected perpetrators of a drug trafficking offence. Shortly afterwards, the woman assaulted one of the police officers, which led to an additional detention for a suspected offence of assault on a law enforcement officer.
As a result of the operation, officers seized a bag of cannabis, three bags of tussi and the materials allegedly used for the manufacturing and distribution of the substances.
