Barcelona police detained a 25-year-old man at Barcelona Nord bus station when he was preparing to leave for Romania, his country of origin. Officers discovered that he was transporting 139 mobile phones concealed inside his trousers, according to România Liberă.
The police operation developed in the area when officers observed the individual's suspicious behaviour. He appeared visibly nervous and attempted to avoid contact with law enforcement, which led to his interception and identification.
During the search, police found 139 mobile devices in his possession, mostly smartphones, including iPhone models. Subsequent checks indicated that the majority of the devices had been stolen during the Primavera Sound music festival, held in early June in the Parc del Fòrum area.
The total value of the recovered devices is estimated at approximately 150,000 euros, according to data provided by the authorities cited by international media.
The detainee, who has no criminal record in Spain, was arrested on suspicion of theft by force and possession of stolen goods. The investigation suggests that the man was acting as a "mule", a term used to designate people paid by criminal networks to transport stolen goods between cities or countries.
The investigation continues to determine the operating method of the network to which the arrested man may have belonged, as well as his possible international connections.
