Police in Palma de Mallorca arrested two individuals in the early hours of Saturday accused of assaulting the home of an 80-year-old man. Among those arrested is a 20-year-old of Malian descent who previously formed part of the squad of the Portuguese club Gil Vicente's under-23 team, according to a report by Correio da Manhã.

The alleged perpetrators forced their way into the victim's home. Once inside, they threatened him with a firearm in order to steal various objects belonging to him. A third person involved in the robbery remains at large, according to police sources cited by local Balearic media.

The Barcelos club issued a statement this Wednesday to clarify its relationship with the detained individual. Gil Vicente emphasised that the young man never signed a professional contract and that his last involvement with the under-23 subsidiary dates from September 2025. During his time with the team, the now arrested player featured in only three official matches.

The investigation remains open whilst authorities search for the third participant in the assault.
