Spanish security forces detained a 24-year-old man from Erfurt in Cala Ratjada, Mallorca, on 8 June following almost three years on the run. The arrest came after an intensive search conducted by investigators from the Landeskriminalamt (LKA) of Thuringia, whose enquiries had spanned several European countries.

The case originates from 2023, when employees at a hotel in Erfurt discovered a cache of 30 kilogrammes of methamphetamine and cannabis in a room rented by the suspect. Police seized the goods, which had a value of approximately 1.8 million euros on the illegal market. Following the discovery, the Erfurt prosecutor's office issued an arrest warrant against the young man, who managed to evade justice until his capture in Spanish territory.

The detainee now faces criminal proceedings for alleged trafficking in drugs in non-insignificant quantity, an offence that can carry a sentence of several years imprisonment.
