At midnight on Thursday, residents of the Sant Roc neighbourhood alerted the Mossos d'Esquadra to gunshots coming from a property on Còrdova Street. According to La Vanguardia, officers attended the home, which is occupied by a family belonging to one of two rival groups engaged in ongoing clashes in the area.
The uniformed officers did not find the person responsible for the gunshots inside the flat. Witnesses had suggested that the individual could be hiding in the property, which led police to deploy a search operation in the area.
Evidence gathered by sources close to the investigation suggests that this latest incident may have no direct connection to the revenge attacks between the two gangs that have been ongoing since the previous Sunday. On that day, on the same stretch of street, armed individuals fired from a vehicle at two young girls playing on the pavement. One of the bullets struck a ten-year-old girl, who remains in hospital recovering from her injuries.
The succession of armed incidents is keeping residents of Sant Roc on edge, where security forces have increased their presence in an attempt to quell clashes between the rival factions.
