Twelve arrested in major anti-drug operation in O Salnés appear before judge
A total of twelve people arrested in an operation against drug trafficking appeared before the court in Vilagarcía de Arousa on Wednesday. The raid was carried out on Tuesday in the O Salnés region and involved the participation of nearly one hundred police officers.
Among the defendants are Gabriel Charlin Paz and his brother José Benito, descendants of the well-known patriarch of the same surname. Searches were conducted at roughly twenty properties distributed between the O Salnés area, the city of Vigo and the country's capital.
According to Galician judicial sources, the searches affected private residences, garages and industrial facilities. The investigation began following the seizure of a drug shipment in Verín during May, when a Serbian citizen was intercepted with the goods.
The police operation was marred by the death of a 31-year-old young man during one of the searches. Jonathan Señoráns Trigo was struck by a bullet allegedly fired by an officer who was entering his home in Corvillón. The deceased was among those being investigated in the criminal network.
The case regarding the death is being handled by the court in Cambados under seal of secrecy. The victim's partner and colleagues of the officer involved gave statements as witnesses. The family's solicitor, Guillermo Presa, filed a complaint against the police officer responsible for the shot.
Those close to Señoráns Trigo deny that he carried weapons and claim that he earned his living in the fishing sector.
