Two arrested with 23 kilograms of drugs in secret boot compartment in La Jonquera

The National Police detained two men in La Jonquera, a locality close to the Spanish-French border, after discovering 33 packages containing 22 kilograms of marijuana and one kilogramme of cocaine hidden inside a secret compartment in the boot of their vehicle, according to Google News ES — Crime (es).
The incident took place in the early hours of 23 August during a routine preventative check in the border area. Upon noticing the presence of officers, the driver of a Skoda saloon ignored stop signals and executed an evasive manoeuvre to avoid the checkpoint.
Police intercepted the vehicle and, upon searching it, located in the boot a hidden compartment — known as a "caleta" — designed specifically to conceal illegal merchandise. Inside were the 33 packages containing the drugs.
The two occupants of the saloon were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a drug trafficking offence. The judicial authority subsequently ordered both detainees to be remanded in provisional custody.
