Two arrested in Córdoba for selling nitrous oxide at Trassierra Fair
The Guardia Civil arrested two residents of Córdoba for distributing balloons filled with laughing gas to young people during the Trassierra fair between 13 and 16 August.

The Guardia Civil has arrested two men, both residents of Córdoba, as suspected perpetrators of two offences against public health, according to ABC. The detainees were distributing nitrous oxide—popularly known as 'laughing gas'—during the celebration days of the fair in the Santa María de Trassierra neighbourhood, between 13 and 16 August.
The arrests took place on different nights and were carried out by officers from the Guardia Civil Station in Córdoba capital. The alert came through citizen collaboration: several residents reported that some young people were selling balloons filled with the gas on the esplanade where around 500 people had gathered for an open-air drinking session.
Officers conducted a discreet inspection of the area in order not to cause alarm among attendees. The surveillance made it possible to identify the suspected perpetrators and seize the gas cylinders and other materials used. In both cases, the operation concluded with the detention of those involved and the opening of the corresponding proceedings.
Nitrous oxide has medical use as an adjuvant for sedation in dentistry, but its recreational consumption has spread among young people in Europe through inhalation via balloons. It acts as a depressant of the central nervous system and, despite many consumers considering it harmless, it can cause serious health disturbances in those who inhale it.
