The night from Saturday to Sunday turned violent in the Kukullaga neighbourhood of Etxebarri, where celebrations in honour of San Antonio were interrupted by serious disturbances. Two brothers ended up in police custody, accused of assaulting members of the authorities, whilst a police officer was injured.

The conflict began when the Local Police detained one of the young men for an alleged offence against law enforcement officers. When attempting to transport him, a violent reaction was triggered by those close to the arrested person.

The first detainee's brother charged at the uniformed officers and struck a member of the Ertzaintza in the face, which led to his immediate arrest under the same charge.

From that point, the situation spiralled out of control. Around a hundred people attending the street party threw glass bottles at the security forces. A police officer suffered a head wound after being hit by one of these bottles and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Faced with the escalation of violence, the police command deployed units of the Mobile Brigade. The confrontation continued for a couple of hours until, as dawn broke, calm returned to the area around six in the morning.

After spending several hours at the police station, both arrested individuals were released during Sunday morning, although they were placed at the disposal of the courts for future appearances.

For now, the only available account of events is that provided by the Security Department of Lakua.
